SAN MATEO

Safeway, 800 Delaware Street (at Peninsula Avenue)
This shake-roof era Safeway still has the classic Circle S sign out front, and painted-on department labeling similar to that of the South San Francisco ex-White Front location.  Aisle hangers definitely date back to the 1980s Safeway motif.

Longs Drugs, Delaware Street (at Peninsula Avenue)
This drugstore is to the left of the 800 Delware Street Safeway, and originally opened along with it as a Super S drugstore according to Justin Karimzad.

Spinning ball still in existence here, though this photo somewhat obscures it (due to the 92 freeway overpass).

Key Market, Shoreview Shopping Center (Norfolk near Third Avenue) (New, 12/21/06)
This independent supermarket is across the street from the site of a wingless marina Safeway from 1959, which, according to Justin Karimzad, operated as an independent until 1989, then sat boarded up until a 2000 demolition.
