PACIFICA
Former Lucky and Payless Drugs, now Albertsons and Rite Aid, Fairmont
Center
According to a post by Justin Karimzad at the Groceteria board, this site
was formerly a Safeway and Super S combo in the 1960s.

Judging from the Chinese restaurant with a "bubble" roof reminiscent of older
supermarkets, and the non-standard architecture of the existing supermarket
site, (despite the in-store notice that Safeway has only been in Pacifica
since 1970) I have a feeling this was once a site for another chain. This
was confirmed from an email by former Safeway employee Tom McGowan, who notes
this was a Brentwood that joined the chain when Safeway acquired that company
in the early 80s.

"Serving Pacifica
Since 1970" (inaccurate as the gable store opened in the early 1960s)
Former Safeway, now Pacifica Athletic Center, Route 1/San Pedro Road near
Linda Mar (New, 9/25/06)
The gable design, signspace on front area, and signscars from former Circle
S attachments give this one away. From the Groceteria thread on Pacifica,
the store's age was discovered: it was built in 1963, and Safeway moved to
the Linda Mar shopping center in the early 1980s.

This store replaced the one on the Pacific Athletic Center site; this was
already open by the mid-90s (and according to more Groceteria board posts
was actually once a Bell). Front sports the current (as of mid-2006)
Safeway logo.
