NORTH HIGHLANDS
Note: Mailing addresses for this unincorporated portion of Sacramento
County sometimes use the "Sacramento" moniker, even though it is not part
of the City of Sacramento.
former Picnic 'n' Chicken and burger place and Wienerschnitzel?,
now Adalberto's Mexican Food, 5544 Watt (at A)
According to Johntodd from Flickr, this was a 39 cent burger stand for a
while. Architecture is similar to an existing Wienerschnitzel on Broadway
in Sacramento, which (based on Flickr user tspauld's research) was also a
Picnic 'n' Chicken location.

Rexall Pharmacy, North Highlands Shopping Center (5600 Watt (at A
Street))
Although the American Rexall drugstore chain is long gone (the Canadian division
still survives as a major player in pharmaceuticals north of the border),
several independent drugstores in the States still use the name, including
one that closed a few years ago in San Francisco. This one looks to
be surprisingly located in a modern strip mall.

former Burger King, 6819 Watt (at Elkhorn)
Yet another victim of Burger King's major cutbacks in Sacramento in the early
part of the 2000s. The building itself no longer exists, but the sign
still does. According to
this link
and
another
link and
this news
story, Sacramento County successfully sued Burger King over poor upkeep
of the (closed) site from about 2001 to 2005, earning $170K for community
groups in North Highlands. This location was once owned by bankrupt
franchisee Joseph Lal, before becoming Burger King owned in 2000.
