ARDEN-ARCADE/TOWN & COUNTRY

Note: Mailing addresses for this unincorporated portion of Sacramento County always use the "Sacramento" moniker, even though it is not part of the City of Sacramento.  (However, Arden-Arcade is at present considering incorporation.)  According to Les Cobb of the Western Stores and Gas mailing list, the "Arcade" area/95821 zip code is more known as "Town and Country" (which gave the shopping center at Fulton/Marconi its name) by long-time residents.

Note 2: The area east of Mission Avenue and west of Walnut Avenue was part of Arden-Arcade until 2001, when the boundaries were shifted to include it with Carmichael instead, though Les mentioned on the WSG list that Carmichael's postal boundaries have always extended that far west.

Note 3: While Arden and Arcade (Town & Country) are seen as one area administratively, there is a bit of delineation, with the boundary line between the two being El Camino Avenue.

Former Arby's and Boby's Roast Beef Sandwich Shop, now Z Auto Sales/Choice Auto 'n Truck, 2425 Arden Way (west of Fulton) (New, 11/10/06)
Groceteria's webmaster and a few other members helped ID this one for me.  It's now a building in a used car lot, and I can't believe I didn't recognize the design considering a similar design still operates as Arby's near the house I grew up in in the Bay Area.  A newer Arby's unit exists today a few blocks west on Arden Way.  Tspauld's library research from April 2007 notes that this was a Boby's in 1975, after having been Arby's in 1970.

Former Safeway, now Tognotti's Auto World, 2509 Fulton (at El Camino) (New, 12/14/06)
This store operated as a Safeway from at least 1963 into the mid-1970s, but has been Tognotti's for decades now.  The second of two Sacramento-area marinas, Tognotti's front sign was replaced a few years ago with the current look.  Tspauld's library reserach notes that this marina last operated as Safeway in 1976, and became Tognotti's the very next year.

Tspauld's library research pointed out the past heritage of this building, which only became a Big 5 around 1980.  He also discovered it was a Safeway as late as 1964, in the wavy-awning style that was used in the late 1950s (as exemplified in other units along Broadway and on South Land Park Drive in Sacramento).

Les Cobb mentioned on the Western Stores and Gas mailing list that as a Mobil, this unit once had a car wash, but lost it by the time it converted to BP; he also notes that it was an one-time off-brand of Tosco's after originally converting to 76 post-BP, a debranding possibly resulting from the proximity of the Marconi/Watt 76 station (7/10ths of a mile to the south).  A nearby 7-Eleven stands on the site of a former Tidewater/Flying A station.
